M - Marriage Visa

Am I eligible for this visa?

If you are married with a Colombian national, you are eligible to apply for the Colombian marriage visa.

What are its benefits and restrictions?

Up to three years validity

It allows you to live in Colombia for up to three (3) years. It also allows you to get a foreign ID card (CΓ©dula de extranjerΓ­a).

This visa admits beneficiaries

It allows you to bring your kids under 25 with you as beneficiaries once your visa gets approved.

Work permit

It allows you to work in Colombia and to perform any legal activity.

Time accrue towards residency

Allows you to accrue time towards residency. After holding this visa for five (5) continous years, you will be eligible to apply for a Resident type visa.

What do I need to apply?

1. Colombian marriage certificate

You will need an authentic copy of your Colombian marriage certificate.

If you got married in Colombia, you will be able to get this certificate at the Notary where your marriage was registered or at any local RegistradurΓ­a.

If you got married abroad, consider that you will need to register your foreign marriage in Colombia before a local Notary to get your Colombian marriage certificate.

This authentic copy of your marriage certificate can’t be more than 3 months old at the time of your visa application.

2. Notarized letter signed by your spouse

You must attach a visa request letter signed and notarized by your Colombian spouse, through which he/she will state your current effective cohabitation. This letter is crucial, it will be thoroughly reviewed by the authorities and must be prepared with attention to the personal and legal circumstances of each family.

3. Special power of representation

Special power of attorney, signed and notarized, by which the Colombian national grants his/her foreign spouse the authorization to apply for this visa.

4. Certificate of migratory movements

You will need to get the certificate of migratory movements of both you and your spouse. These are called β€œCertificado de Movimientos Migratorios”, which can be obtained before MigraciΓ³n Colombia by filling this form and pick it up when it’s ready to the nearest MigraciΓ³n Office from your residence.
