M - Parent or child of a naturalized Colombian National

Am I eligible for this visa?

If you are the parent or the child of a citizen who acquired the Colombian citizenship by adoption, you will be able to apply for this visa.

The Colombian citizenship β€œby adoption” refers to the nationalization process of a foreigner to get the Colombian citizenship.

What are its benefits and restrictions?

Up to three years validity

This Visa allows you to live in Colombia for up to three (3) years. It also allows you to get a foreign ID card (CΓ©dula de extranjerΓ­a).

This visa admits beneficiaries

With this visa you will be able to bring your spouse and kids under 25, once your visa is approved.

No work permit

This visa does not allow you to work in Colombia.

Time accrue towards residency

This visa allows you to accrue time towards residency. After holding this visa for two (2) continous years, you will be eligible to apply for a Resident type visa.

What do I need to apply?

1. Letter of naturalization

The visa authority will verify in their database the official document that granted Colombian citizenship to the foreigner who is either your child or parent. If they cannot access this document, they may request that you attach it to your application for clarification.

2. Kinship certificate

You will need a certified copy of the Birth Certificate or document that proves you are the parent or the child of the Colombian National. If the document was issued in a foreign country, it must have an apostille to Colombia and official translation to Spanish.

3. Application letter

You must present a signed letter by the Colombian National by adoption, requesting the visa for you.

4. Bank statements

You must present your bank statements from the last six months, showing financial solvency and mention your sources of income.
